We started off TV week doing pretty well but a few days into tv week I decide we pay way too much for our cable and internet service. I contacted our provider to see if we could get a lower rate.
They wouldn't give us one. Apparently, after you have had it a couple of years you are just out of luck and have to pay the astronomical price which they will not lower to keep you.
So after discussing it with my husband we decided to cancel our tv and internet. We decided since we would only have it for another week that we would let the boys enjoy it for the rest of the week. That is why we "failed".
I ordered the converter box coupons for the tv and contacted the local phone provider about getting dsl service.
The total we were paying for cable/internet and cell service every month is $300. We can get a home telephone and dsl for $67 a month. This would then allow us to lower our cell plan and we can save money on that also.
If I can get it down to about half of what we were paying before I will be happy. As for the cable, I am not sure if that is coming back or not. We can add it to the phone/dsl bundle for an additional $30 a month but after reading this post, I am not sure I want it back.
Luckily our library is about 4 blocks away so I will be able to use their internet until we get our new stuff up and running.

That is great! So many things are driven by the tv schedule, it would be much easier for us without. We cut about $60 off our bill by dropping our cable channels way down. I don't want to swtich to DSL, so we won't go that far right now, but I am constantly on the phone with our company cutting things left and right.
You know we ditched the cable a year ago... Best thing ever. You can watch so many things for free on Hulu and other free TV sites. Just get good internet service. As for the home phone- we don't have that, either. Just a cell phone for babysitters that serves as the home phone if we need it (mostly so I can find my misplaced cell phone).
We don't have cable, and I'm very glad of it. We can control what we watch, when we watch it. And I don't have to shield my kids' eyes when those nasty commercials come on. :) You can do it. Just, please, please, don't leave the internet. I would miss you too much.
